Wurm is constantly changing, so we really need people to test out our new in-development features, look at our new artwork and to help us to eradicate bugs.
The first place any player should look if they intend to test or just have a look at in-development features is the City Hall section of the Wurm forum. Here, developers post new topics when they update packs, or release new unstable or live client versions and request feedback on these.
Test Server
Sometimes it can be a little bit exciting to try out new things, especially if you’re trying out things a little bit before everyone else. In a sense, that’s why we have the Test Server. This server is completely independent from the normal game servers, so you are free to use whichever account name you wish (since no registration is required) within reason, of course.
Aside from showcasing and testing new game art and sounds, the test server is also used to test ingame features, both live and in-development on the client and server. So, if you think you’ve found a bug ingame and you think you know how to reproduce it, head over to the test server and seek out test server staff. Most staff on the test server have item / creature spawning abilities, so we can create and observe almost any test conditions.
Unstable Client Versions
Another important way to test upcoming client features is to use the Unstable Client. This is basically a more up-to-date version of the normal game client, and this works with the normal servers since client changes are only in terms of what we see and what the game looks and sounds like. For more specific testing information and feedback opportunities on a version by version basis, check out the City Hall.
Website
Perhaps less known than the other areas which need testing, recently The Website has undergone considerable changes and improvements. So, if you happen to find pages that don’t go anywhere, or information which is out of date, or even simple typos or anything like that, we’d like to hear about it. Also, we’re very open to suggestion on improvements and additions.
Sending Feedback
As I mentioned earlier, the vast majority of feedback for in-development artwork, sounds and client versions can be found in their relevant topics in the City Hall forum. The majority of Wurm developers are regulars on the Wurm IRC channel so you can often recieve immediate response there (although many developers (especially Rolf) are busy, and might be too busy to respond). The Forums are also a great way to contact developers.
If you find and subsequently need to report bugs which don’t fit any specific City Hall topics, you are welcome to use the Bugs and Problems forums. Remember, a server bug is one which involves how the game actually works and a client bug is one which involves how the game looks. Dont worry if you do mix them up though; it’s not the end of the world!
By the way! Wurm deserves a better rating on Onrpg!
EDIT: Thanks those who have so far and will vote for Wurm. We’ve raised the rating from 6.6 to 7.5!
